Ripley Reunion 2015 committee allocates $60,000 to local groups

The positive impact of the 2015 Ripley Reunion is now being felt across Huron-Kinloss Township.

The reunion committee received nearly 50 requests for funding from a wide variety of deserving groups, and faced some very difficult decisions when allocating nearly $60,000 in reunion profits.

In the end, the following groups/initiatives received various levels of funding:

  • Bruce Botanical Food Gardens
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kincardine and District
  • Reunion Back to School Committee (with assistance from the Reunion History Book Committee)
  • HAWK Theatre
  • Huron Shores Lions Club
  • Purple Grove Community Centre
  • Ripley Curling Club
  • Pine River Watershed Initiative Network
  • Ripley Artisan Festival
  • Ripley Agricultural Society
  • New trophy cases in the arena for the Ripley Skating Club and Ripley Wolves
  • Ripley Lions Club
  • Bluewater Snowmobile Club
  • Ripley-Huron Community School iPad program
  • Local Special Olympians
  • An oncology chair at the Wingham hospital
  • Kinetic Knights Lego League at Ripley-Huron Community School
  • Ripley Minor Hockey
  • Ripley Family Y
  • Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey
  • New playground equipment at the Ripley baseball diamond
  • Upgrades to bleacher handrails and lobby benches in the Ripley Arena

“There were so many deserving community groups that the committee spent a great deal of time making sure we were assisting the right initiatives, while supporting those who helped make the reunion such an amazing success,” said reunion committee chairperson Amanda Farrell Walsh. “We were ecstatic to have so much money to return to our supporters, and we look forward to seeing the lasting impact of Ripley Reunion 2015 in the community.”

The allocation of funding is the final action of the committee which will be officially disbanded early in 2016. Planning for the 2025 Reunion will begin around 2020.

“I can’t give enough thanks to the dozens of volunteers, the Township of Huron-Kinloss and the local media for all their assistance over the past five years," said Farrell Walsh. "Without them, the 2015 Ripley Reunion would not have been the success it was.”
