Bruce Power receives Canadian Occupational Safety Five-Star Safety Cultures award
Bruce Power is the proud recipient of the Canadian Occupational Safety’s Five-Star Safety Cultures award, in recognition of its commitment to championing safety excellence and remaining vigilant over the well-being of its employees.
“Bruce Power remains committed to living its number one value of safety first,” said Terry Rothmaier, senior vice-president of governance, oversight, assessment and learning.
“We understand the risks inherent in our work, taking effective preventive and protective measures to keep people, the plant and the public safe. Our commitment to continually improve our safety management programs is unwavering. We are proactively working together with employees to empower them to learn and find solutions. We want to ensure employees plan and consider safety from planning to executing work and that they are involved every step of the way.”
The five-star culture in safety occurs when workers have the knowledge and confidence to see a concern or hazard and are comfortable enough to report it. This happens when employees understand they are playing a vital role in the corrective actions required to address hazards.
Bruce Power’s goal is to ensure the safety of the public and its employees, making sure they go home to their families safe and healthy after each shift.
To be considered for the award, the company’s performance over the past year was reviewed and there was also a survey asking employees to rate their company across a range of metrics that constitute drivers of employee satisfaction. Companies that achieved an overall satisfaction rating of at least 80 per cent were recognized with the five-star award.
Canadian Occupational Safety highlighted Bruce Power’s achievement in a
