Kincardine approves community investment grants to local groups and organizations

Kincardine approves community investment grants to local groups and organizations
Kincardine council has approved the allocations made by the community investment grant committee, donating $43,450 to local groups and organizations, and $25,000 to youth sports, for a total of $68,450, this year.

The report was presented to council for approval at the meeting Wednesday night (April 23).

According to the report, the community investment grant committee, comprised of deputy mayor Andrea Clarke, and councillors Rory Cavanagh and Amanda Steinhoff-Gray, met April 1 to divvy up the $44,000 budgeted. After the funds were disbursed, there remains $550 in the community grants budget.

The $25,000 for sports groups will be divided among Kincardine Minor Soccer, Kincardine Minor Baseball, Kincardine Minor Hockey and the Kincardine Skating Club. This distrubtion happens in the fall of the year.

The following groups and organizations received grants from the municipality:
 
  • Afro Caribbean Youth Awards, $2,000 – awards night expenses
  • Kincardine Refugee Committee, $2,000 – support fund-raising events
  • Kincardine Pride, $2,000 – Pride Parade celebration
  • Swajan Samanvay Sanatan Centre, $2,000 – event costs
  • Lighthouse Blues Festival, $2,000 – festival
  • Tiverton Agricultural Society, $1,000 – venue rental, DJ music services, refreshments and activity materials for the fall fair
  • Kincardine Agricultural Society, $1,000 – costs of renting municipal fencing, picnic tables, garbage cans, tent rentals
  • Paisley Agricultural Society, $250 – tent for fall fair
  • 2nd Kincardine Scout Group, $1,500 – camp for members
  • Big Brothers and Big Sisters of South Bruce North Huron - $2,000 – mentees program, offset rental fees for events
  • The Well Collective, $2,000 – Youth Hub in Kincardine
  • Drop-in at the Bridge, $1,500 – teen drop-in program
  • Kinetic Knights Robotics Team, $1,000 – travel to competition, material to build the robot
  • Kincardine and District Lions Club, $2,600 – rental space for Lions Yard Sale
  • Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation capital campaign committee, $2,000 – Rock With Your Docs fund-raiser costs
  • Township of Bruce Historical Society, $500 – event costs (rental, insurance, etc.)
  • EMS Charity Hockey Tournament, $1,000 – rental fees
  • Kincardine Fire/OPP Guns and Hoses, $600 – rental fees
  • Elgin Market Public School, $2,000 – playground upgrade
  • Crime Stoppers, $1,000 – fund-raising events
  • Huron Shores Hospice, $2,000 – purchasing wheelchairs
  • Kincardine Area Good Food Box, $1,500 – cost of food in boxes
  • Kincardine Community Concert Band, $1,500 – rentals, repairs, equipment
  • Kincardine Curling Club, $1,000 – house decals, ice temp, tools, pebbling can
  • Kincardine Environmental Action Network, $1,000 – financial support
  • Kincardine Lawn Bowling Club, $2,500 – new lawn mowers
  • Kincardine Naturalization Projects, $2,000 – purchase trees, tools and supplies
  • Paddy Walker Heritage Society, $2,000 – oil tank replacement
