Emergency Preparedness Week: Learn about risks and be prepared in Bruce County
Bruce County is reminding residents to learn how to stay safe and be prepared, during Emergency Preparedness Week, May 4-10.
This national awareness initiative provides communities with an opportunity to learn about local risks and make sure they are prepared when emergencies strike.
"Being prepared is everyone's responsibility," says Ray Lux, county emergency management co-ordinator. "Emergency Preparedness Week gives us all a chance to learn what we need to know and do. to protect ourselves, our families and our communities when faced with an emergency situation."
KNOW LOCAL RISKS
Each municipality in Bruce County has identified which hazards pose the greatest risk to its specific area. Knowing these potential emergencies helps communities be better prepared.
For the county as a whole, the top four identified hazards are:
- Tornado
- Severe winter weather
- Cyber attack
- Power outage
Understanding these risks allows residents to take appropriate steps to prepare themselves and their families for these specific emergency situations.
"We're inviting everyone to explore emergency preparedness by creating your own emergency plans and kits," says Lux. "These simple steps can make a significant difference in how well individuals and families navigate through challenging circumstances."
TAKE ACTION
