South Bruce OPP hosting two cryptocurrency information sessions
(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) - Wednesday, May 14, the South Bruce OPP will be hosting two information sessions about common frauds and cryptocurrency scams.
This year alone, residents of southern Bruce County have reported losses amounting to more than $350,000 stemming from on-line cryptocurrency scams.
In an effort to further educate the public, the police are hosting two events, discussing everyday scams. Additionally, the South Bruce OPP will be joined by a member of the Provincial Asset Forfeiture Unit who will be discussing digital currency.
Events will take place at:
- Walkerton Legion, 505 Scott Street, Walkerton - 10 a.m.
- Davidson Centre, 601 Durham Street, Kincardine - 1 p.m.
No registration is required to attend; however, space may be limited.
We continue to urge residents to be cautious when engaging in digital currency transactions and investments. Scammers often use fraudulent documents marked with logos and wording that can appear legitimate, which leads the victims down a path of surrendering personal information and banking details under the belief they are conversing with a legitimate source.
If you receive any documentation that appears suspicious to your situation, contact the company or financial institution in person or directly by a number you know to be the company’s; not the phone number or E-mail the document advises to do, as it could be fraudulent.
For more information on fraud, you can contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or
