Good crowd toasts 2016 at Legion New Year's Levee
Despite the cold, snowy, windy weather, about 65 people gathered in the club room at the Kincardine Legion, to raise a toast to 2016, at the annual New Year's Levee, Friday afternoon.
President Mary Farrell welcomed everyone, and first vice-president Jim McDonald raised a toast to the Queen. Red Larsen raised a toast to our Fallen Comrades, and then Zone C-1 Commander Eric Ross of Brussels brought greetings from the zone.
Ross thanked Kincardine for the invitation for him and his wife, Debbie, to join Branch 183 to ring in the new year. He also admired the beautifully-renovated bar, and the hard work the Kincardine branch has been doing to its premises and its programs. "There's a bright future for Branch 183," he said.
Kincardine deputy mayor Jacqueline Faubert brought greetings from the mayor, council and staff of the Municipality of Kincardine.
"I offer our gratitude to those who have served their country and those who continue to serve so we can meet in peace and comfort," she said. "Thanks to the Legion for all you do for our community. I wish you good health and success in 2016."
Former Kincardine mayor Glenn Sutton noted that 2015 was a significant year for Kincardine, thanks to the announcement that Bruce Power has signed an agreement with the province, making nuclear part of the energy supply mix to 2064. This means the refurbishment of Units 3-8, beginning with Unit 6 in 2020.
"This is great news for the next generation and future generations," he said. "I would like to raise a toast to the people of Kincardine who secured this bright future for us all."
The group then enjoyed a delicious lunch in the hall.
