PURPLE GROVE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
Thursday, May 15, Purple Grove Women’s Institute members went on a tour to Reutz's Country Market, and the Birch Creek Greenhouse and Garden Centre. After some purchases of more plants and produce, they continued to the Huron County Gaol in Goderich. The gaol staff was excellent in explaining the history and importance of its presence in Huron County. The unique design and structure of the building contributed to the culture of prison rehabilitation and reform that was noteworthy of the time.
The ladies explored the cell blocks, council chamber and jailer's home before heading to the Huron County Museum on North Street where they admired the excellent displays of machinery, war memorials, furniture, business activities and government in the early days of the county.
The tour finished at the Park House Restaurant where the ladies enjoyed a delicious supper and a brief overview of business, before heading home on a still lovely warm evening. Thanks to Diane Clifford and Fran Farrell for arranging the day.
RIPLEY 4-H
The Ripley 4-H Sheep Club worked hard last weekend collecting garbage, cans, recycling and the odd car part, out of the ditches on the roads that have been designated as cared for by Ripley 4-H! Big thanks to the parents who came along to help the club members tackle this big job. They enjoyed nature's music as they walked together. A reminder that all 4-H Livestock Club members are to be registered by June 1, with their project animals. Check with your 4-H leaders and make sure you are on the membership list!
