Kincardine Legion Corner

Marlene Pace of Kincardine won $1,023 in the Catch the Ace draw. She chose Envelope No. 12 which revealed the Three of Diamonds. Be sure to get your tickets on-line or at any of our in-person locations for Wednesday’s draw, you could be the next winner! We estimate the jackpot will grow to about $8,000 next week. For this week’s ‘Russ in the Movies’ challenge, we put Russ into the movie “Forrest Gump.” If you missed it, you can check out the ‘Kincardine Catch the Ace’ Facebook page and find the post.

At the Saturday Meat Draw, we once again had eight distinct winners, with no double-dippers. Bill Arnold won the 50/50 draw and took home $207.50. Congratulations to all the winners, including; Linda M., Linda R., Terri, Sheila, Ed, Gayle, Doc and Scott. This Saturday, Greg Pahl will be playing some live music after the meat draw, from 5-8 p.m.

At the Trivia Night, last Friday, the winning team was "Alaska our 11th Province," which came out on top with 57 points. Two teams tied for second place – Team "Not on Vacation" and Team "Tequila Mockingbird," with 52 points. It was a fun night with some awesome crowd table drumming. A big thank you to Laura and all the volunteers! Thanks to Team "Not on Vacation," for the kind gesture of donating the $75 prize money to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation. Also thank you to Rob Riggin’s family for also pitching in, and rounding it up to a $100 donation.

This past week, Branch 183 made a $1,000 donation to the Kincardine District Senior School (KDSS) girls U15 rugby team to help with expenses for the trip to OFSAA (provincial finals), for which the team has qualified, for the very first time in the history of the team. Congratulations and good luck next week!

The Kincardine Refugee Committee is hosting a Rock ‘n’ Roll night at the Legion, Friday, June 6, from 7-10 p.m., with performances by “Get Back” (a tribute to the Beatles) and Elvis tribute artist David Starr-Neitzel. There will also be a silent auction for art, sports memorabilia, and other items. Tickets are $40 each. The proceeds will go to the Kincardine Refugee Sponsorship Committee, to help refugee families that escape their situations to come to Kincardine for a new life.

As many in the community know, the Legion hosts many ‘Celebrations of Life’ gatherings, and we thank all of the Legion volunteers who help at these family events and make them run so smoothly. Led by Holly and Mary, the April celebrations saw 475 people attend, and involved 107 hours in preparations by the volunteers. Thanks to everyone!

Finally, just a reminder that tickets are now on sale at the Legion Bar for Sunday, July 20, for the Second Annual Doug Kennedy Jersey Day Fund-raiser, to see The Ballaghs on stage, tickets are $25; and also for Saturday, Sept. 27, for the Third Annual Lulu’s Band Hootenanny, tickets are $40.
