Probus Club gets update on Kincardine Hospital capital campaign
Kincardine Probus Club members enjoyed a very thorough presentation by Graham Mahood and Jack Nancekivell about the status of the Kincardine Hospital redevelopment project and the fund-raising campaign by the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation.

Some highlights were:

  • The last upgrade to the hospital was in 1988 and due to the growing area population, there needed to be another upgrade.
  • The project focuses on the expansion of diagnostic imaging department (including a new MRI machine), the emergency department, and the laboratory department.
  • Nancekivell reviewed the sharing of costs between the Ontario Ministry of Health and the hospital foundation, noting that the local share is predominantly raised through individual donations, while the government will cover capital and some operational costs.
  • Mahood reviewed the infrastructure expansion of the hospital in detail right down to each room and function.
  • They emphasized the importance of having a modern hospital in order to recruit more doctors, of which five more are expected confirmed.
  • Overall, the donations are at about $11-million of the $18-million goal.
  • The shovels will, hopefully, be in the ground, beginning in late 2026.

The next meeting will be held Tuesday, July 15, at the 9:30 am., at the Davidson Centre, with guest speaker Erin Nichol, M.Cl.Sc., clinical audiologist, of Lake Huron Audiology.
