Officers arrived and found that a red Suzuki King quad 450 ATV with Licence No. 88XX1, had just been taken from an outbuilding on the property. The value of the stolen ATV is estimated to be $5,000.

OPP REPORT MOTORISTS ARE STILL DRIVING WHILE IMPAIRED

(ORILLIA, ON) – The OPP is reporting that drivers are still not getting the message about drinking and driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol.

During the OPP’s Festive RIDE program, which began Nov. 23, 2015, and wrapped up Jan. 2, 2016, the OPP laid 573 charges of impaired driving in this province.

Police also report that just over 350 people had their driver's licences suspended following a roadside warning during the annual safety initiative that saw police officers checking vehicles at roadside stops, while checking for alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers.

Locally, the South Bruce OPP laid seven charges for impaired driving and seized four licences for roadside warn violations.

In 2015, the OPP laid more than 6,000 alcohol- and drug-impaired driving charges. The OPP is reminding the public that some officers now have specialized training to identify drug-impaired drivers. Police will continue their efforts to raise awareness about the dangers associated with impaired driving.

“This year’s results tell us that some drivers continue to put others at risk by driving while impaired," says inspector Dana Earley, South Bruce OPP detachment commander. "The Festive RIDE campaign has ended, but I assure you that the South Bruce OPP will continue the RIDE checks to deter impaired driving. It only takes one impaired driver to hurt someone that you care about, so drive sober or don’t drive at all.”

The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122.  Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or send a web-tip to crimestop-gb.org, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
