The sanctuary of Knox Presbyterian Church, Kincardine, was awash in tartans, kilts, pipers and drummers for the annual Kirkin’ of the Tartan service, Sunday morning, July 6, part of the Kincardine Scottish Festival and Highland Games.
Members of the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band played several tunes on the lawn in front of the church, prior to the music, before marching into the sanctuary. Piper Leslie Ray then piped in Rev. Kathy Fraser, and the flag-bearers, Stuart Killin and Eric Howald.
The national anthem was sung, followed by the church service.
Fraser blessed the pipe band, and Ray piped in the tartans, with Tartan Marshall Barb Ross, and about a dozen tartans to be blessed.
Tartans presented, included:
Municipality of Kincardine - deputy mayor Andrea Clarke
Clergy Tartan - Alex and Evelyn Fraser
Fraser Tartan - Aiden Fraser
Henderson Tartan - Shelley Dechene and Bill Henderson
MacLeod Tartan - Diane McLeod
Ross Tartan - Robert Ross
Royal Stewart Tartan - Steve Phillips
Robertson Tartan - Marlene Reid
Robertson Tartan - Terry Reid
Stuart Tartan - Barb Stuart
The tartan-bearers were piped out and the pipe band, choir and congregation joined in singing “Highland Cathedral,” followed by the recessional.
