SVCA to host public meeting on updated regulated area mapping in Huron-Kinloss
The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) will host a public information meeting, Friday, Oct. 3, from 6-8 p.m., at the Point Clark Community Centre, to present proposed updates to the regulated area mapping for portions of the Township of Huron-Kinloss.

The meeting, required under Ontario Regulation 41/24, invites residents, cottagers, and stakeholders to view draft maps, ask questions, and better understand how the changes may affect their properties.

Doors open at 6 p.m. at the community centre, 344 Lake Range Drive, Point Clark, with the presentation at 6:15 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer period, and discussion with SVCA staff.

The SVCA acknowledges the extended timeline in reaching this stage of public engagement and thanks the community for its patience. Much of the delay has been due to sequencing requirements and timelines established by the Province of Ontario for conservation authorities undertaking mapping updates under O. Reg. 41/24.

The SVCA has completed updated flood-hazard mapping supported by Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) topographic data. These updates allow the SVCA to transition from broad screening area mapping to more accurate regulated area mapping, which more precisely identifies where the SVCA review and permitting are required before development may proceed. In many cases, the regulated area is smaller and better reflects actual site conditions.

“This update is about improving clarity for landowners, developers, and municipal partners,” said Matt Armstrong, manager of environmental planning and regulations with the SVCA. “It ensures everyone has a clearer understanding of where the SVCA review applies and why.”

At the meeting, SVCA staff will explain how the updated mapping differs from previous versions, present the draft maps, and answer questions from attendees. Staff will also assist landowners in determining how the changes may impact their individual properties.

The draft mapping will be made available on the SVCA’s website at least 30 days before it is formally considered by the SVCA board of directors at the November authority meeting.

The SVCA encourages all interested landowners, residents, and stakeholders in Huron-Kinloss to attend the public information meeting.
