Everyone invited to free education series about proper stewardship of Lake Huron shoreline

Everyone invited to free education series about proper stewardship of Lake Huron shoreline
Summer is a wonderful time to be outdoors enjoying our local beaches, trails, forests, gardens, and wildlife.

As we enjoy the beautiful waters of Lake Huron, the wide sandy beaches along the shore, drive by vibrant colourful gardens, fields or farm crops being harvested, many are becoming concerned with the challenges resulting from significant dry spells, air-quality issues due to Canadian wildfires, fewer bird and insect sightings, as well as hotter and longer heat waves than in past.

With these concerns in mind, many of our local organizations have collaborated to provide a FREE educational series for residents, cottagers and visitors to the Huron-Kinloss and Point Clark community, to learn how our local area has been quietly changing before our eyes and what we, as stewards of this beautiful area, can do to protect the spaces we love.

As the old saying goes, “What happens in my backyard can end up in our lake.” We do have the ability to make a difference. Come, learn and participate in several interactive, hands-on activities to deepen your understanding of climate change and nature unfolding before your eyes. Take away stewardship actions you can implement at home. Please note which events need pre-registation.

Huron Bruce Nature and the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority, with support from the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority, will present “Shoreline IN Motion,” Friday, Aug. 22, from 9:30-11 a.m. (Rain date is Monday, Aug. 25).

Join this session starting at the Point Clark Lighthouse Pavilion for a guided shoreline tour exploring the dynamic coastal processes that shape this unique stretch of Lake Huron’s shoreline. Learn how natural forces, such as waves, wind, and water levels, continually reshape the coast, and how these changes affect the local landscape, eco-systems, and communities. Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority staff will be available to discuss its regulatory role and share resources for those seeking more information. If interested, consider a lighthouse tour and get an aerial view of information learned in the session. Point Clark Lighthouse entrance fees apply. This session requires pre-registration.
