Kincardine Coast Guard Auxiliary rescues broken down vessel
The Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary – Kincardine responded to a call from the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre, Trenton, Friday night, Aug. 8, to rescue a vessel that had broken down in the Lake Huron waters.
The auxiliary unit arrived at the Mysis rescue boat in about 15 minutes and was en route to the disabled pleasure craft’s location shortly thereafter, towing it back to Kincardine Harbour.
One of the interesting take-aways from this event was that the captain of the pleasure vessel was panicked to arrange for an alternate vessel to tow it into port because the captain was unaware that the services provided by the auxiliary unit in Kincardine are free and do not result in individual charges for receiving rescue services. Once this was explained, the captain was very thankful and appreciative of the volunteers and the work undertaken by the auxiliary.
A reminder to the public: if you are in a boat on Lake Huron, and you get into trouble, do not hesitate to call for help at the fear of a large monetary cost. The Coast Guard Auxiliary in Kincardine is ready and able to provide life-saving support to its waterborne approaches.
Volunteers are needed to operate the rescue boat and serve on the Bluewater Rescue Inc. board of directors. If you are interested, contact
