Raymond Hart of Kitchener won $1,112 in the Catch the Ace draw. He chose Envelope No. 21 which contained the Six of Hearts. The new estimated progressive jackpot now sits at $15,000. Remember, every purchase of a $5 ticket helps to support our trilogy of charities: Kincardine Legion, Huron Shores Hospice, and the Tiverton and District Lions Club, for local projects in our community. Congratulations to one of our in-person retailers, InStyle Hair Studio, celebrating 25 years in business!

At the Saturday Meat Draw, the prizes were all evenly distributed, and we didn’t have any double-dippers at all. Rod Shanks won the 50/50 draw and took home $185.50. Congratulations, Rod! If you were reading this and wondering ... hmm, I wonder when the next Mega Meat Draw is going to be, well you can mark on your calendar that it will be Saturday, Dec. 14. But we have many regular-sized Meat Draws each Saturday until then, with lots of great prizes, so come and enjoy the afternoon at the Legion!

Friday’s Trivia Night saw the team, ‘Department of Trivia,’ come out on top and win the night, and there seemed to be a good rivalry between current teachers and retired teachers, so we will see if that develops further in the coming months. The next Trivia Night is Friday, Oct. 3.

It’s Early Bird membership renewal time! From now until the end of November, you can renew your Legion membership at a discounted rate — just $55, or $50 for veterans. Need a hand with the process? Our membership chairperson, Kim, is always happy to help. You’ll often find her at the Saturday Meat Draws with renewal forms on hand, and you can also take care of everything on-line at your convenience. Don’t miss out on the savings — renew soon and stay connected with your Branch!

An important note for veterans and their families. Our Provincial Service Officer (PSO) will be visiting us sometime around Oct. 22-24. This year, those veterans wishing to see Rebecca must pre-register by Sept 26. If you wish to see the PSO, or know a veteran who wishes to, register at the Legion office or contact our Veterans Services Officer Dave Carson by E-mail at sailorkit@gmail.com.

Remember to sign up your team for our Branch Golf Tournament, happening Sunday, Sept. 28. You just need to register and pay for your team at the Legion Bar. The tournament fee is $85 per person, with a shotgun start at 2:30 p.m.. This includes nine holes plus a cart, and a roast beef dinner back at the Legion. Dinner is at 5:30 p.m. and you can add dinner for a spouse or friend for an additional $25. Please reach out to Cathy Alcombrack if you have any questions.

Tickets are now on sale at the Legion Bar for The Ballaghs concert, Saturday, Dec. 13. You can pick those up for $25 each. Note: if you purchased tickets to The Ballaghs in July, you are welcome to come in and exchange them for tickets for the December date (just be sure to bring in your July tickets when you come in).

Also there are still a few tickets remaining for our 3rd annual Lulu’s Band Hootenanny, Sept. 27, at a cost of $40 each; also available at the Legion Bar. If you like to dance to fun tunes, make sure you come out to this one — it’s a Hoot(ennany)! [groan]

A reminder that this Saturday, Sept. 13, Branch 183 will be a stop on the Kincardine Art Crawl and our Public Relations Officer Glenn will be around to showcase a variety of images and videos and demonstrate some A.I. content tools and workflows. So stop in if you're at all curious about this new technology. Glenn will be in the Veterans Lounge from 10 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m., as the Meat Draw will be on by then. Note: the Legion officially opens at Noon, so if you stop by before Noon you will be able to come in only the main front door. Just hang a left into the Veterans Lounge, where Glenn will be displaying some digital works on the large TV in that room.

Other September happenings include the Zone Convention, Sunday, Sept. 14, and our Branch General Meeting, Sunday, Sept. 21, at 2 pm.

Also Sunday, Sept. 21, from 2-5 p.m., the Lighthouse Swing Band will be at the Legion once again, and the theme of the night is ‘Swing Stars of Broadway.’ Admission to the dance is ‘Pay What You Can,’ with a suggested $10-20 range, and professional dance instructor Carmen Coburn will be present to teach Ballroom and Line Dancing steps (free to all attendees).

Other Coming Events:
  • Friday, Oct. 3 - Trivia Night
  • Sunday, Oct. 5 - Family Dinner - roast beef is on the menu
  • Saturday, Dec. 13 - Mega Meat Draw
  • Sunday, Dec. 14 - The Ballaghs at 2 p.m.
