Fund-raiser Friday for Point Clark man who lost home in fire
A fund-raiser will be held this Friday, Sept. 26, from 6-9 p.m., at the Point Clark Community Centre, in support of Doug Williamson of Point Clark who lost his house to fire earlier this month.
Organizer Shawn Plante, also of Point Clark, says the “Paint Your Date” fund-raising event welcomes you to sit across from your date and paint his/her portrait. A donation of $20/person will be collected at the door. Refreshments will be available, and art supplies will be provided.
“We want to raise funds for Doug to help him rebuild, and to bring awareness to the need for emergency services in the lakeshore area,” says Plante.
Huron-Kinloss fire chief Jeff Bradley said the Ripley-Huron Fire Department was dispatched to the structure fire in Point Clark, Sept. 5. Crews arrived on scene in under 14 minutes to find a detached shed fully involved, with propane tanks present, which made it challenging to control the fire spread.
The fire quickly spread to the nearby residence, causing significant damage to the home, said Bradley. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The fire department reminds homeowners of the importance of having working smoke alarms on every level of their home and outside all sleeping areas. Smoke alarms save lives.
