​Kincardine Bulldogs split games in PJHL action on the weekend
The Kincardine Bulldogs took a 14-1 beating from the Fergus Whalers, but edged the Mitchell Hawks, 4-3, in Provincial Junior Hockey League action on the weekend.

The ‘Dogs hosted the Whalers at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, Friday night, and managed to get just one solitary goal on the board. That was scored by Zasha Ortman, midway in the first period, assisted by Caeleb Bowler and Cole Lewis.

The rest of the game belonged to Fergus, as the Whalers pummelled the Bulldogs, 14-1.

Kincardine goalie Blake Beitz made 24 saves on 38 shots. The ‘Dogs had 22 shots on goal, compared to Fergus’ 38.

The Bulldogs redeemed themselves, Sunday afternoon, as they travelled to Mitchell and brought home a 4-3 win against the Hawks.

Mitchell opened the scoring early in the first, and had a 2-0 lead before Bowler scored for the ‘Dogs, from Jared Houghton and Tyler Kelly, to make it a 2-1 game.

Dawson Marshall tied things up at 2-2, midway through the second frame, assisted by Kelly.

The Bulldogs then fired in two quick shots early in the third, to make it a 4-2 game. Nathan Lavender scored from Ty McQuillin and Houghton; and Lewis scored from Kelly.

Minutes later, Mitchell managed to get one more goal but couldn’t tie it up, giving Kincardine the 4-3 win.

Beitz made 34 saves on 37 shots.

Kincardine had 31 shots on goal, compared to Mitchell’s 37.

The ‘Dogs are on the road this weekend, travelling to Wingham, Friday, Oct. 3, for an 8 p.m. game; and to Fergus, Sunday, Oct. 5, for a 3 p.m. game.

Friday, Oct. 10, they are in Walkerton for a 7:30 p.m. game; and the next home game is Saturday, Oct. 11, at 2:30 p.m., against Mitchell, at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.
