Purple Grove news
It was a beautiful Thanksgiving weekend for everyone in Purple Grove and we extend our best wishes to all our family and friends across Canada and around the globe! Some of our western provinces have already had a taste of winter so we will enjoy this next week even more!

Sheena and Alyana Houghten were home for a couple of days with the MacDonald family over the weekend.

Jamie and Barb McEwan and Sandy McEwan got together last week with their cousin Mary Anne Kukoly.

The family of John and Joyce Farrell was also together for Thanksgiving.

We extend more wedding anniversary greetings to Dan and Madison Martin, and a very Happy Birthday to Liz Dadson, and Ieleene Clark, and Happy 75th Birthday to Ian MacDonald!

We extend our sincere sympathy to the families of Trudie Nelson and Marion Robb.

Congratulations to the Kincardine and District Chamber of Commerce which presented its Community Achievement Awards, Thursday night at Ainsdale Golf Course. We are certainly blessed with all the wonderful people and businesses that contribute every day and share their gifts and talents to making our community thrive!

Tuesday of last week was the regional cross-country meet for the elementary schools, held at Ainsdale Golf Course. Congratulations to all those students who participated and represented their schools. Thank you to all the teachers and chaperones who give their time to support all these young people!

Congratulations, also, to all the Grade 12 graduates of Kincardine District Senior School who celebrated Commencement, Friday night. We are all proud of your accomplishments and wish you the best in your future endeavours!

Today (Oct. 15) is the International Day of Rural Women. This day serves as a platform to raise awareness about the challenges rural women face, to advocate for their rights and equal opportunities, and to inspire action at local, national, and global levels. It was first celebrated in 1995 and was organized by the Women's World Summit Foundation). Ten years later, it was adopted by the United Nations.

This day also highlights the contributions of rural women to food security, sustainable agriculture, and community resilience, while emphasizing leadership in climate-smart solutions and innovations. The Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) promotes and encourages the work and awareness of rural women in all countries. The Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario and Canada (FWIO and FWIC) participate and become leaders for ACWW and attend the world conferences which are held every three years. Ottawa is hosting the 2026 Triennial Conference, from April 26 to May 1. More details about the conference are available at acww.org.uk/twc26-ottawa.
