Community safety and well-being planning receives funding from Bruce Power
Grey-Bruce Community Safety and Well-Being Planning has received a $5,000 contribution from Bruce Power to support its ongoing efforts to strengthen safety, health, and well-being across the communities in Grey-Bruce.

The funding builds on the momentum created through the Nuclear Innovation Institute’s Community Resiliency Strategy project, which helped strengthen the understanding and need for collaboration and shared priorities around well-being and safety.

The funds will help advance the planning group’s collaborative work in such areas as mental health, substance use, crime prevention, poverty and income, and housing and homelessness.

Community Safety and Well-Being Planning brings together partners to address the root causes of community challenges. Rather than responding to crises after they occur, the plan focuses on prevention, early intervention, and system co-ordination, ensuring that services work together to support residents effectively.

The funding will help advance the identified priorities of the plan, and support co-ordination across community partners, enhance communication and engagement activities, and strengthen collaborative efforts that promote prevention, address local risks and improve overall community well-being.

“We recognize that communities across the region are experiencing a host of complex social issues related to mental health, substance use, poverty and homelessness,” said John Peevers, senior advisor of corporate affairs at Bruce Power. “We believe the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan and its focus on prevention and co-ordination, will help build resiliency and work toward what we all want – happy, healthy and safe communities.”

Recent initiatives supported by the plan include:

  • Hosting community forums on homelessness, co-ordinated access, and human-trafficking awareness
  • Developing regional strategies for substance use/addictions and mental health supports
  • Strengthening local partnerships to improve collaboration and access

“We’re grateful for the continued support from the community and partners, such as Bruce Power,” said Jane Hartley, Community Safety and Well-Being Planning steering committee member and executive director of Victim Services Bruce Grey. “Together, we can make measurable, lasting change.”
