A reminder of safety first during hunting season in Bruce County
Trail-users in Bruce County are reminded that long gun (rifle) season for deer hunting runs Nov. 3-9.
Hunters and recreational users should take steps to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. All those using county forests must ensure they are visible and must be aware that others may be nearby.
Trail-users should:
- Avoid using trails at dawn and dusk, and anytime that visibility is limited.
- Wear “high-visibility clothing or hunter orange” (hat, vest, scarf, etc.). Put “high-visibility” items on your pets as well. Avoid beige, brown, white, or green clothing.
- County bylaws require that all pets must be leashed while using county forests.
Hunters should:
- Avoid hunting along trails and in areas with active trail use.
- Be aware that you may be sharing the forest with other hunters and trail-users.
- Hunters must never shoot unless they are absolutely sure of their target and what is beyond it.
- Be familiar with hunting regulations and bylaws for hunting in county forests as there are some forests where hunting is prohibited.
