Kincardine Legion Corner

Glenn Booker, PROBy: Glenn Booker, PRO  October 30, 2025
Kincardine Legion Corner
Tomorrow (Oct. 31), marks the start of our 2025 Poppy Campaign, and we will have poppies available at the Legion Bar, by donation. In addition, we will have the following items on sale should you wish to purchase them: Lawn signs, (two styles, 16-inches-by-24-inches) $25; Metal Lawn Poppy, $20; Wristbands - $5; and Poppy Centres, $1. Also, we could use some members to volunteer Saturday, Nov. 8, to help canvass businesses. If you would like to help out, reach out to our poppy chairperson Sandra Benbow.

This year, we distributed our Poppy Donation Envelopes in the “Blue Flyer Bag,” this week (Oct. 27). If you do not typically receive this bag, donation envelopes will also be available at the Legion Bar, Sleepers Bed Gallery and InStyle Hair Studio. Instead of mailing your donation envelope, you can drop it off at the Legion Bar, Sleepers Bed Gallery, or InStyle Hair Studio, or message us on Facebook, and someone will arrange for a pick-up. Last year, you helped raise $52,274, and we want to try to do even better this year, with your help. Every poppy counts. Every donation honours a veteran and the sacrifice they made for us.

We will continue to remind you of these important dates over the next few weeks The Branch 183 Ceremonies of Remembrance will be held Sunday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. in Tiverton at Lions Memorial Park; and in Kincardine, Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m., beginning with the service in the hall, followed by the wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph.

Deborah Pannell of Kincardine won $1,686 in this week’s Catch the Ace draw. She chose Envelope No. 8 which revealed the Four of Diamonds, so the Ace of Spades remains hidden and we are projecting that the jackpot will grow to $30,000. Remember to pick up your tickets at any of our local retailers — the Kincardine Legion Bar, Kwik Way (Tiverton), Sleepers Bed Gallery, Jean’s Family Restaurant, or InStyle Hair Studio. You can also buy your tickets on-line at kincardineace.com. As a little hint, we will have a guest writer doing the Legion Corner next week, and this person knows A LOT about Catch the Ace, so perhaps expect some interesting information in this section next week. No pressure, maybe some stats? How many tickets have been pulled since inception perhaps?

At the Saturday Meat Draw, we had triple double-dippers. Stephanie Rutledge, Shannon Allen and Brian McKay won two prizes each. The winner of the 50/50 Draw was Doug Holtby who took home $168. Remember we have a Meat Draw every Saturday, and our next Mega Meat Draw will be Dec. 13. This coming weekend, Kim will be at the Meat Draw if you wish to renew your Legion membership while the Early Bird rates apply.

For those who watch for these details, our dinner food for next week’s Bingo, Nov. 6, will be chili. Also, the next Trivia Night is Friday, Nov. 7. We will have food available for trivia as well, including nachos and wings, and fries. Sign up your team for Trivia Night today!

The annual Kincardine Legion Craft Show and Bake Sale, is Saturday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free. Donations to the Bake Sale can be dropped off at the hall bar Friday afternoon or Saturday morning before 9 a.m.
