Bervie W.I. ladies enjoy travelogue of trip to South Africa
The Bervie Women’s Institute met at the Bervie United Church, Wednesday morning. President Bev welcomed everyone and opened with the usual openings and land acknowledgement.

A Remembrance Day poem was read. Roll Call was answered by nine members and two visitors, with “What I know about South Africa.”

Michelle Phillippi, past-president of the Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario (FWIO), and Llyssa Phillippi, area voting delegate, were welcomed to the meeting. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Betty Jean White. The financial report and Sunshine Report were given by Sandra MacDonald.

Michelle Phillippi explained some Institute procedures. Thank-yous were read. Happy 99th Birthday to Mildred Griffith who has been a very active member of Bervie W.I. for 79 years.

Lunch was served by Sandra MacDonald, featuring fresh fruit and Malva Pudding, an African recipe. Everyone enjoyed social time. Janice Hewitt gave the report of the Rally held Oct. 23.

Sandra then gave a travelogue of her trip to South Africa, with a local group. The ladies discovered the appreciation of the vastness of the park acres - some fenced, some not - and the animals, up close. Seeing the Big Five was amazing: Cape Buffalo, Lion, Elephant, Rhinoceros, and Leopard. Plus many more.

A short business section included two motions to be made. The meeting closed with the Royal anthem and Institute Closing.

The next meeting is Wednesday, Dec. 3, at noon for a potluck lunch.
