More than $9,000 raised at Knox Church’s Breakfast for Malawi
A great crowd enjoyed a delicious breakfast served by head chef Bruce McKechnie and his family and friends, Sunday morning, at Knox Presbyterian Church, Kincardine.
The annual Breakfast for Malawi is a fund-raiser to support efforts of the Ekwendeni Hospital AIDS Program (EHAP) in Malawi, Africa. The goal is to help grandparents of the Ekwendeni area who are caring for their orphaned grandchildren. This year’s event raised $9,240.
“We are fortunate to have contacts at the EHAP to see that the funds raised are used as intended,” said McKechnie. “As in past years, any and all donations go toward the cause.”
Admission was by donation, and the menu included made-to-order omelets and eggs, as well as toast, pancakes, bacon and sausage, and coffee, tea and juice. The food was served by several volunteers, including Dave and Miriam Barrie who have travelled to Malawi on mission trips.
The event has been hosted by the McKechnies and Barries for the past 30 years, raising more than $250,000 for the people of Malawi. The two couples have decided to retire, with Mark and Kim Ozorio and Bob and Darlene Eleanor taking over next year.
