Project Red Ribbon campaign kicks off in Lucknow
(HURON COUNTY/SOUTH BRUCE, ON) - Officers from the Huron County and South Bruce OPP detachments gathered in Lucknow, Wednesday, to help kick off the annual Project Red Ribbon campaign.
The officers joined volunteers from the Huron-Bruce chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in conduccting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint in Lucknow to create awareness and detect potential impaired drivers.
It was great news on both sides. Officers were happy to report that approximately 100 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and everyone was found to be complying and driving in a sober condition.
Project Red Ribbon is an annual awareness campaign to promote sober driving during the holiday season.
“Drivers should expect to see enhanced patrols and RIDE checks during the festive season,” said Huron County OPP sergeant Russ Nesbitt. “Driving sober is always the right choice. If you choose to drink or use drugs, call a taxi, phone a friend, stay the night or have some other plan to get home safely. Please do the right thing and drive only if you are sober.”
Huron-Bruce MADD recently celebrated its 30th anniversary as a chapter dedicated to its mission to stop impaired driving and to support victims of this violent crime. MADD Canada's red ribbons and car decals are available through the MADD Canada website, chapters and community leaders, and participating sponsor outlets. For more information visit
