The Kincardine District Senior School (KDSS) Christmas Knights are back.

After a five-year hiatus, the students are returning Saturday, Dec. 13, to collect non-perishable items for the Kincardine Food Bank.

The Christmas Knights was a student-driven, door-to-door new toy and food drive that ran successfully for 23 years, from 1997-2019, when the COVID-19 pandemic put a stop to it.

The students and staff advisors worked directly to help support the Christmas Hamper program. However, since the pandemic, the hamper program focused on presenting gift cards to those in need. It is now called the Kincardine Community Services - Children’s Christmas Campaign, assisting families with children up to the age of 18 living in their homes, by providing each family with an envelope of gift cards.

“We are excited to bring back the Christmas Knights,” said student co-ordinator Sophia Booth. “Saturday, Dec. 13, from 9 a.m. to Noon, we will be working in teams, with students in Grades 7-12 covering designated routes within the Town of Kincardine, going door-to-door to collect items for the food bank.

“The students will be sporting their green-and-white Christmas Knights hats as they hope to reach most homes in town. If you aren’t going to be home, it would be helpful to have the labelled items left on your doorstep for pick-up. This will also help prevent any confusion with potential parcel deliveries. If you your house happens to get missed, you can drop off your donations at the food bank, or at the Sobeys or No Frills donation bins.

“The Christmas Knights thank the community, in advance, for helping to bring back this great event and make things a little easier for others.”
