Kincardine Hometown Christmas draws impressive crowd
A tremendous crowd gathered in downtown Kincardine, Friday night, for the annual Hometown Christmas which welcomed decent weather and a cold wind.

The event saw the businesses along Queen Street decorated for the holidays, and the owners and staff welcoming people to come inside and get started on their Christmas shopping.

The Huron Heights Public School choir, made up of Grades 3-4 students and directed by music teacher Heather Weber, opened the event with several Christmas carols, followed by the lighting of the Christmas tree in front of the Kincardine Library.

Everyone then headed through the downtown to take in the festivities of Hometown Christmas.

Members of the Kincardine Community Singers were carolling up and down Queen Street, and Santa and Mrs. Claus greeted the children on Harbour Street.

One of the newest shops in downtown Kincardine is Treats and Tales, with owner Tracy Vandewiel who has taken over The Book Shop, formerly Condor Books. It is open Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Several members of the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band, in festive head-gear, marched down Queen Street to Harbour Street and then had their photo taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The event also featured horse-drawn wagon rides, free hot dogs and hot chocolate, a petting zoo, the Kinetic Knights bake sale, top shot hockey, and the beautiful lights in Victoria Park. The St. Anthony’s School Parent Council was selling discount books as a fund-raiser, with a light maze courtesy of Now Playing Family Centre.
