Lee Watson won $2,000 in the Catch the Ace draw, choosing Envelope No. 12 which contained the four of Hearts. The jackpot has soared to more than $40,000, and continues to grow. Excitement is building, and with ticket sales on the rise, we’re seeing the money "accumulate" like snowfall, which is helping to drive the jackpots higher each week. This is wonderful news for our trilogy of charities – the Kincardine Legion, Huron Shores Hospice, and the Tiverton and District Lions - who will use their share of the proceeds to support our community.

At the Saturday Meat Draw, we didn’t have any double-dippers at all. Congratulation to Sherri, Steve, Joanne, Jeff, Dave, Lynn, Ed, and Kathy! The winner of the 50/50 draw was Rod Hilton who took home $165. We are only a three weeks from the Dec. 13 Mega Meat Draw, with music by Sweet Light Crude, and many turkeys to be won. If you haven’t been to a Meat Draw, tickets are three for $1 for the meat draws, and tickets are good for all the draws. The tickets for the 50/50 draw are $1 each.

We were very sad to hear of the passing of Irv Kennedy this past week, and Branch 183 sends our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1955 until the unification of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in 1968, and continued his service within the CAF’s Air Command until 1980. Irv was a Legion member for 38 years, and served on the executive as well.

We are nearly at the end of November, so you have just a few more days to renew your membership and save some money with the Early Bird rates. The regular membership rate for 2026 will be $65, with the exception of veterans whose rate is $50.

Branch 183 recently made a donation to the Kincardine Curling Club’s Junior Program. This donation of $2,286.76 purchased a state-of-the-art curling smart broom. Pete Newton of the club explained that this broom will help to boost the skills of local junior curlers with real-time feedback on sweep, speed and pressure. This high-tech tool pairs with a smartphone application (app) to analyze each stroke, helping young players refine their talent. It is a game-changer for the community hub's youth curling program, helping young players train smarter and aim for tournament wins.

Some general updates for the coming weeks:

  • There will be no ‘Walkie Talkies of 183’ meetings Dec. 5, 26 and Jan. 2.
  • For those who come in and dine before Bingo on Thursday nights, next week, Dec. 4, we will have pulled pork on the menu.
  • There won’t be a Family Dinner in December, so the next one will be Jan. 11, 2026.

As you may or may not know, the Royal Canadian Legion is celebrating 100 years in 2026. This week, the Legion national headquarters announced the addition of Ford Dealers of Canada as the official partner of he Royal Canadian Legion centenary throughout 2026. As part of their significant support, Ford Dealers of Canada will present the grand prize of a 2026 Ford F-150 STX to the winner of the Legion’s centenary sweepstakes called the “Legion 100 Win Big Giveaway.” If you renewed already for 2026 or plan to renew, you will automatically get an entry. If you are interested, there are other ways to gain additional entries, including shopping on-line at the Legion’s store and by donating on-line to the Poppy Fund.

As you come out to attend many of our weekly events, such as Bingo, Meat Draws, Darts, Jam Sessions, etc., consider bringing along an item or two for our Food Bank Collection that is running right now. The Legion is collecting unique and often-overlooked items for the Kincardine Food Bank. If you missed the list of 10 items, here they are once more: feminine hygiene products, coffee/tea, diapers/pull-ups, rice, baby wipes, peanut butter, laundry soap/pods, dried pasta, dish soap, and pasta sauce (meatless). You can drop off your items in the big box in our Legion Hall lobby. Thank you for your support!

Finally, how about a little look ahead a few months in 2026? Branch 183 is planning a dinner and dance for St. Patrick’s Day, March 14, with Left Turn Clyde playing the music.
