The Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) will be installing temporary traffic lights at the intersection of Highway 21 and Bruce County Road 20, north of Tiverton, and just east of the Bruce Power nuclear site, next month.

John Peevers, senior advisor of corporate affairs at Bruce Power, said the company has been advocating for improvements at this intersection for some time. There were two serious accidents there this past summer and several near-collisions, he said.

“The MTO has committed to installing temporary traffic signals on an expedited basis, which are expected to be operational in December,” said Peevers. “The temporary traffic signals will include adaptive video detection technology to adjust signal-timing based on traffic flow.

“Following this, permanent traffic lights will be installed as the MTO places this on its upcoming work planning.

“There have been long-standing safety concerns at this intersection, with recent incidents underscoring the urgency for action. Bruce Power appreciates the collaborative efforts of the MTO, county and municipal officials, and Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson, to put safety first in addressing this matter.”
