A blanket of snow buried the Kincardine area Sunday morning as about a foot of snow fell, beginning around 4 a.m.
By the time people were getting ready to go to church, their vehicles were coated in more than six inches of snow, driveways were clogged, streets weren’t plowed and it was a major headache for all concerned.
As the major thoroughfares were plowed of snow, side streets became a nightmare with vehicles getting stuck and others parked on the side of the road, making it difficult for snowplows to clear the roadways.
Neighbours put their shovels to work, helping out a driver whose vehicle was stuck in the deep snow at the intersection of Princes and Russell Streets, east of Queen Street in Kincardine, Sunday afternoon
Meanwhile, the sound of snow blowers could be heard for miles as people cleared driveways and then brushed their vehicles clear of the unceasing snowfall.
Some church services were cancelled and there was a question of whether the Sunday afternoon Kincardine Community Singers Christmas concert would also be cancelled. However, the snow finally quit in the early afternoon and the concert went ahead, with a good crowd.
Ironically enough, Highway 21 remained open.
More snow and high winds are expected tomorrow (Monday, Dec. 15), with warmer temperatures and rain through the week and then back to cold and snow for the weekend.
