​Hockey legend Paul Henderson helping Kincardine score big for health care

The Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation has announced that Canadian hockey icon Paul Henderson (right) has been named an honourary health-care ambassador for the foundation’s bold $18-million fund-raising campaign — supporting the community’s share of a transformative hospital expansion.

Best known for scoring the legendary winning goal in the 1972 Summit Series, Henderson now brings his leadership, legacy, and compassion to the forefront of local health care. As a proud son of Kincardine and Lucknow, he will champion the campaign to modernize the emergency department, diagnostic imaging unit, and laboratory, and bring Bruce County its first Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine.

“Growing up in a rural community like ours, you learn early on the value of looking out for one
another,” said Henderson. “This hospital has always been there for our families — and now it’s our turn to be there for it. I’m honoured to lend my voice to a campaign that’s about care, dignity, and building something lasting for future generations. Together, we can score big for health care.”

As part of his ambassadorship, Henderson will help launch the "Paul and Eleanor Henderson Quiet and Comfort Lounge," with a goal of raising $100,000 to name a special space in the redeveloped emergency department, offering comfort, privacy, and connection during life’s most vulnerable moments.

“We are deeply grateful to Paul (Henderson) for lending his name and heart to this campaign,” said foundation president Becky Fair. “His legacy of leadership and compassion mirrors the very values we hope to build into every corner of our new hospital. With him on our team, we will drive hard and score the $18-million goal that makes this hospital expansion a reality.”
