Kincardine Legion Corner

Kincardine Legion Corner
Let’s jump in and talk about the Saturday Meat Draw which was the first one of 2026 and very well-attended. Doc Roppel and Jamie White were both double-dippers, taking home two prizes each. In a true ‘couldn’t happen to a nicer person’ moment, Mary Farrell won the 50/50 draw, and it was a big one. She took home $263 - congratulations!

Saturday, Feb. 21, we will be hosting an informal ‘Meet and Greet’ at the Legion for new members. Feel free to drop in between 1-2:30 p.m. to have a look around, meet our Branch 183 executive, take a tour of our wonderful building, ask questions about anything you might be wondering about our organization, look into volunteer opportunities, and more. If you feel inclined, you could even stick around for the Saturday Meat Draw that begins at 2:30 p.m., and maybe win a prize.

In case you missed it last week, or just haven’t heard yet, during 2026, which is the Legion’s Centenary year, community members who have never been Legion members before, can join for free for the year. We’ve had quite a few new members sign up already and we would love to welcome more, so if you have ever considered joining Branch 183, now is the perfect time!
You can join on-line at portal.legion.ca/join or drop into the branch to fill out an application. Our membership chairperson, Kim, is happy to answer any questions. You can E-mail Kim at 05-183@legion.ca. Get signed up and then come on out to the ‘Meet and Greet’ or any other event. We look forward to meeting all our new members!

Thursday Night Bingos are up and running again, and looking ahead for the next few weeks, here are the menu items: Jan. 15 will be pulled pork, Jan. 22 will be turkey pot pie with a biscuit crust, and Jan. 29 will be chili. Remember, food before Bingo starts at 5 p.m. and you can come and eat even if you don’t stay to play Bingo. The first game at Bingo begins at 6:45 p.m. Our amazing team of Bingo volunteers is looking for some help on Thursday nights. If you, or someone you know, is interested in getting in some steps, then this 'runner' position might be just up your alley. Runners are needed to move around the hall, collecting cards and cups, etc. If you are interested, reach out to us and we can put you in touch with Marty, our Bingo chairman. High school students might also be interested, as the Legion can sign off on your volunteer hours.

You can now sign up for the next Trivia Night, Friday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m., and we will have wings and fries and nachos, from 5-7:30 p.m.

Looking beyond January, here are a couple of events to put on your calendar and save the dates for:

  • Saturday, March 14, we are having a St. Paddy’s Day Celebration with a dinner and dance at the Legion. The music will be provided by Left Turn Clyde. Tickets are $20 each and will be on sale at the Legion bar next week sometime. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the dinner running from 5-7:30 p.m. The music will run from 7-11 p.m. The menu will be Irish stew or Shepherd’s pie with a dessert of Bailey’s cheesecake or Guinness chocolate cake. Yummy! We will also be running a 50/50 draw that night.
  • Next, we are hosting The Mudmen at Branch 183, Saturday, April 25. Tickets for this event are already on sale at the Legion Bar, and are $35 each. For this event, the doors will open at 7 p.m., and the band will take the stage at 8 p.m. Enjoy an evening of Celtic music and& stories from Canada's Celtic Rock Warriors.

District C cribbage was held Jan. 3 in Chatsworth. Representing Branch 183 was a team made up of Bob Grey, Keith Colley Sr., Randy McLeod and Glen McDonnell. The team won 10 games, coming up just short by a single game to be able to advance to the provincials. Thank you for representing our branch, gentlemen!

Every so often, we remind everyone that we have a wide variety of medical equipment that we loan out to the community. Just call the Legion if you need to borrow any equipment. Right now, we are well-stocked with many items and, as such, we will not be accepting donations for the next little while. In fact, we are currently donating some of our overstocked items to be sent to South Africa.

The Kincardine Legion has filled a 17-foot trailer with some of its extra medical equipment, which will be added to a sea container for a donation to South Africa
