Traffic stop results in criminal charges for West Grey driver
(BROCKTON, ON) - Jan. 15, at 2:32 p.m., a member of the South Bruce OPP was on general patrol in Walkerton and stopped to check a vehicle along May Street.
The officer had received an automated licence plate recognition system alert, indicating an issue with the observed licence plate. A traffic stop was initiated where further investigation revealed the plate was not authorized to be used on the vehicle, and the driver was subject to a driving prohibition. The driver was taken into custody and the vehicle was impounded for 90 days.
Curtis WHITTEN, 35, of West Grey, was charged with:
- Operation while prohibited, CC 320.18(1)(a)
- Fail to comply with release order, CC 145(5)(a)
- Possession of a schedule II substance, CDSA 4(1)
- Use plate not authorized for vehicle, HTA 12(1)(d)
- Driving while under suspension, HTA 53(1) - two counts
- Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, CAIA 2(1)(a)
- Possess unmarked cigarettes, TTA 29(2)
- Care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available, CCA 12(1)
The accused was held for a bail hearing, Jan. 16, subsequently released from custody, and is to reappear at the Ontario Court of Justice, Walkerton, at a later date.
