​Velma Hendry of Tiverton remembered for her love of family stories and history
Velma Helen Hendry (nee Ferris) of Tiverton died Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, at Huron Shores Hospice, Tiverton, at the age of 94.

Beloved mother of Ann (Rick) Poppe of London, Steven (Anne) of Tiverton, and Lloyd (Donna) of Inverhuron.

Grandmother of Kurt (Rebecca), Claire, Deanne (Dan), David (Yan), Joel (Melissa), Kristen (Caleb), Amber (Jason), Michele (Ashley), and Rebecca (Mark); and great-grandmother of 17.

She will be remembered by her sisters-in-law, Margaret McKague and Pat Hendry; and many friends and relatives.

Velma enjoyed her flower gardens, creating art using paint and photography, reading, sewing, and collecting family stories and history. Her favourite pastime was spending time with loved ones, hearing about their lives and following their activities from her iPad.

Predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; son, John Hendry; daughter, Sandra Hendry; siblings, Marjorie (Burton) Shewfelt, Grace (Bruce) Macpherson, Sherman Ferris; in-laws, George Hendry, Laura Jean Hendry, Peter McKague; and parents, John and Abbie (nee Symon) Ferris.

The family thanks Dr. Gary Gurbin, Huron Shores Hospice and all the staff at Tiverton Park Manor for their compassionate and loving care to Mom over the years, and at the end.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at Knox Presbyterian Church, Tiverton, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Knox Presbyterian Church, Tiverton. Reception to follow in the church activity room.

Private family interment in Purdy Cemetery in the spring.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Knox Presbyterian Church in Tiverton, or Huron Shores Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
