Celebrating Black History Month at Kincardine Library
In honour of Black History Month, the Bruce County Public Library welcomes the community to celebrate the history and enduring legacy of African American spirituals at the Kincardine branch, Sunday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m.
African American spirituals are a musical tradition rooted in the resilience and faith of Black people during some of the darkest chapters in history.
Join community presenter Jenny Hunter, along with special guests Jason Hunter, Yuki Okumoto Stocovaz, and Sarah Dunstan, for an engaging blend of music and poetry that explores how these beautiful and powerful songs of faith and perseverance came to be and how they continue to have an impact today.
Coral’s Caribbean Cuisine is also offering tasting portions of its Caribbean-inspired dishes at the event, including daal and chicken curry with rice and peas. These samples bring another element of cultural richness to the afternoon, complementing the stories and sounds that honour Black heritage.
“At the public library, we are proud to create spaces where every member of our community can learn and celebrate diverse cultural histories," says library director Brooke McLean. "This event brings together music, storytelling and cuisine that reflect the vibrancy of Black communities, past and present."
This free event is open to all ages, but requires registration. Community members may reserve their spot by visiting the public library website at
