Kincardine Sunset Quilters' Guild celebrates 32nd anniversary
Congratulations to the Kincardine Sunset Quilters Guild which celebrated its 32nd anniversary this month.
Wednesday's meeting featured the work of several members who were busy quilting during the stormy weather in January. The theme was "Colourful quilts to beat the winter blahs." There were also delicious refreshments to enjoy.
The guild educates, and creates donation quilts for hospices and hospitals, and for communities in need.
Its community outreach includes the following:
- London children's hospitals
- Cancer clinics/hospitals from London to Owen Sound
- Children's psychiatric wards
- Victims of violence/fire
- Single moms in need
- Donations to groups for raffle items
The guild has about 100 members and meets the second Wednesday of the month, at 10 a.m., at St. Anthony's Church in Kincardine. It also has an "open house" every Monday, beginning at 10 a.m., for education or just to socialize. The members provide workshops, guidance, and enthusiasm and the occasional giggle or two.
People can donate 100-per-cent good quality cotton to be made into donation quilts. The guild has people who knit, crochet and quilt, and is always looking to expand these talents.
In April, 2025, the guild donated more than 86 quilts, seven receiving blankets, 110 baby items, and knitted blankets.
If you are interested in learning to quilt, knit or crochet, or spending time with others who do, check out the Kincardine Sunset Quilters' Guild. Experience is not required!
