​Green Ribbon Panel to join Ontario delegation in Washington, D.C., this week

Hosted by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, members of the Green Ribbon Panel will join industry leaders from integrated economic sectors critical to Ontario–United States (U.S.) collaboration, in an Ontario delegation to Washington this week.

The delegation will bring leaders from electricity and nuclear, manufacturing, life sciences, agriculture and forest products together to advance conversations on energy collaboration, economic resilience and shared prosperity across North America in advance of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) review expected to take place later this year.

As part of the delegation, Green Ribbon Panel members will reinforce the importance of cross-border collaboration in strengthening energy security and advancing made-in-Canada energy solutions that support economic growth in Ontario, the rest of Canada and the U.S.

“Ontario and Canada are at a pivotal moment for our energy and economic future,” said James Scongack, chairman of the Green Ribbon Panel. “Participating in this delegation is an important opportunity to contribute to conversations with our American partners and to emphasize the value of collaboration in building a more secure, resilient and competitive North American energy system.”

The Green Ribbon Panel is recognized as a leading cross-sector voice focused on strengthening Canada’s energy security and economic resiliency. Bringing together leaders from the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, the panel champions solutions that support the vision of Canada as a clean energy super-power. The mission is an opportunity to continue to lead Canada on a path to energy certainty.

The Washington meetings also align with the Ontario government’s Building Fortress Am-Can strategy, released last year, which calls for a renewed Canada–U.S. alliance to strengthen stability, security and long-term economic growth. A core focus of the strategy is achieving Am-Can energy security to power shared economic growth, recognizing Canada’s leadership in developing and delivering major energy infrastructure projects.

With an ambitious plan to expand Ontario’s nuclear fleet and grow its supply chain, the province is uniquely positioned to support North American energy security while creating jobs and economic opportunity on both sides of the border.

The panel welcomes the progress made over the past year and looks forward to continuing to advance the importance of a collaborative approach to strengthening Ontario and North American energy leadership.

The Green Ribbon Panel brings together leaders from across Canada to push for practical energy solutions that keep the country secure and competitive. Formed in 2020, the panel creates space for business and civic leaders to share ideas and solutions that can make Canada a global clean energy super-power. The Nuclear Innovation Institute serves as the panel’s secretariat, providing research, policy expertise and co-ordination to advance this mission.
