Kincardine resident upset with loss of compost bins on Bruce Avenue
To the Editor:
Why has the Municipality of Kincardine decided to eliminate the compost bins placed at the south end of the Town of Kincardine on Bruce Avenue?
This was the only way that taxpaying, conscientious Kincardine residents could deal with our compostable material.
The municipality does NOT pick up compostable material, so now what is the alternative? Drive 10 kilometres to the DUMP? What about the individual who does not have the opportunity to drive out there? Why? What is the reasoning?

Editor's note: In response to the question raised by many about the loss of the compost depot on Bruce Avenue, Adam Weishar, Kincardine director of infrastructure and development, states that council approved the closure of the depot sites for cardboard recycling and yard waste in June, 2025, to align with Ontario’s Blue Box Regulation which shifts responsibility for eligible recycling to curbside collection.
"Consolidating services at the Armow Waste Management Centre improves oversight, reduces misuse, and ensures the municipality remains compliant while operating more efficiently," says Weishar. "Residents can continue to access compost services at the Armow centre. Hours have been extended for their convenience, Mondays from 3-6 p.m., and Thursday from 7:15–9 p.m."
