Who died and made Doug Ford king?
To the Editor:
Our fearless premier, Doug Ford, is sure acting as if he is the King of Ontario.
Look at some of his actions:
- He wants to appoint the chairs of a number of regional governments and give them strong mayor powers. The unelected chairs would take orders from Queen’s Park, not the locally-elected councillors.
- His government is reducing the number of conservation authorities to nine from 36.
- He’s gutting the Freedom of Information Act to exempt his phone records.
- The government has taken over a number of school boards. Who needs elected trustees?
- The mayors of a large number of municipalities have been given strong mayor powers.
- The legislature is pretty well ignored. After a 102-day winter break, the legislature is once again sitting - for 32 days before summer recess.
The list could go on but there is more than enough information in it to show that Ford and his cronies want to centralize power at Queen’s Park.
Ford reminds me of someone south of the border.
