Bruce County’s energy transition initiative marks first anniversary
Bruce County’s economic development team is marking one year of progress through the energy transition initiative, a forward-looking program partially funded by the Government of Ontario.
Over the past year, the initiative has supported local business owners as they explore and adopt cleaner, lower-carbon energy solutions. These efforts help strengthen the region’s economy while advancing long-term sustainability goals.
Since its launch in March, 2025, the initiative has engaged more than 450 businesses across Bruce County. It provides access to training, funding information and hands-on support to help advance cleaner energy planning.
In its first year, the initiative has:
- Delivered workshops and learning sessions on practical energy solutions
- Supported a range of cleaner energy projects, including solar, heat pumps, geothermal and emerging technologies
- Created the energy transition Tool-kit to help business owners scope projects and prepare for investment decisions
- Provided outreach and one-on-one consultations to help business owners navigate energy options
- Hosted Bruce County’s first Energy Transition Showcase, featuring hands-on demonstrations and peer learning
“The energy transition initiative is about meeting business owners where they are and providing practical, actionable support,” says Heather Hyde, economic development manager. “With continued collaboration and provincial support, we are accelerating the adoption of cleaner energy solutions that benefit businesses, communities and the local economy.”
Looking ahead, the initiative continues to expand training opportunities, deliver targeted consultations and support new pilot projects.
Bruce County business owners can participate in the initiative by:
- Applying to receive a free high-level energy assessment with customized recommendations
- Acting as a host site, working with peers and energy experts to identify practical energy-saving opportunities
- Scheduling a free one-on-one consultation with Bruce County’s energy transition specialist to explore energy solutions, funding pathways and next steps with confidence.
