Kincardine Legion Corner
Our first winner in the Kin Cares 50/50 Draw was Larry Irwin! Kincardine president Teri Leslie presented him with his winnings, May 4. It was clear from the comments on our social media posts that the phrase, “Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy,” applies to Larry. Congratulations on being our first-ever monthly winner, and taking home the jackpot prize of $9,175. Remember - one lucky winner takes half of the jackpot every month. The other half? That goes right back into the community through the ongoing initiatives of our partners. We can’t wait to start sharing real examples of the impact of Kin Cares 50/50 as the draw progresses!

Tickets are now on sale for our May 50/50 draw (including the two early bird draws this month). Thanks to everyone who set up recurring ticket purchases, as it really helps us start the month off right. The two early bird draws are Friday, May 8, for $500, and Friday, May 15, for another $500. Remember you can purchase your tickets on-line at www.kincares5050.ca or in-person at the Kincardine Legion or the Kincardine Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop at the Kincardine Hospital.

Speaking of giving back to the community, Branch 183 was excited to support local initiatives with three recent donations. The Kincardine branch gave a cheque for $500 to the Kincardine Agricultural Society. We also gave $400 to Shane Hotchkiss in support of the Tour of Kincardine Bike Race, happening May 30. And finally, we gave another $500 cheque to Team Unbreakable in support of an end-of-year school party (supported by Kincardine Family Health). Kids from four local schools are completing a course to promote healthy living and, May 22, will be running laps and eating pizza (which the Legion contribution is helping to pay for). More than 400 students will be participating.

At the Saturday Meat Draw, we had a triple-dipper. Congratulations to Rod Dodman on his three wins, and also to Tom Harris who was a double-dipper. Heather Roppel won $161.50 in the 50/50 draw - congratulations!

This coming Saturday, May 9, will be our Mega Meat Draw with HWY 19. Come on down to the Legion and listen to some awesome music and enter to win some great prizes. The kitchen team will be cooking up a variety of snacks, including Pulled Pork Tacos, Wings and Fries snack pack, Schnitzel on a Bun, and Poutine. In celebration of the Legion’s Centenary year, each food item will be $5. Also, if you haven’t tried one of the three new Legion beers, we have restocked, so give them a taste.

Thanks to everyone who made our first-ever Music Bingo Night a success! Our MC Russ helped us through five themed playlists, including the 1970s, the '80s, a Ladies Night mix, a Modern Country mix, and finally a Drinking Songs mix. Funnily enough, the Drinking Songs mix seemed to also have quite a bit of country. We had a fun time, and gave out more than $600 in cash prizes. Our next Music Bingo is scheduled for Friday, June 19, but is not yet 100-per-cent confirmed, so stay tuned! Thanks to everyone who helped run the night.

Just about a week left to let our Branch Service Officer Dave Carson know if you wish to book a time with Rebecca Hyndman, our Provincial Service Officer, some time between May 27-29. If you would like to meet with her, reach out to Dave  - sailorkit@gmail.com or call 519-386-5314 and let him know.
