Purple Grove news

Another long weekend has come and gone, with yard sales and the start of summer - yeah! Did you know that May 16, last Saturday, was National Barbecue Day, and May 20 was World Bee Day? May is also Strawberry month - probably setting fruit for June in our part of Ontario. Sure nice to see the sun and also for our farmers to get seed in the ground again. Be careful, everyone, on the roads and around all the machinery.

There's been quite a few birthdays in the community
, and belated birthday wishes to Sherry Howatt, Kasey Cubberly who is two years old, Emily Rombouts, Jan Logtenberg, Aaron Ruetz, Paul Murray, Joe Fry, Peter Roberts, George Miller, Robyn Bridge, Christine Bridge and Chloe Kovalenko!

Family gathered
, Sunday, at the home of Harvey and Bren de Leeuw in Kincardine to celebrate birthdays and wish the Kovalenko family the best as they make their way to their new home in Stephensville, Newfoundland.

Of course
, May has lots of wedding anniversaries! Happy 50th Anniversary to Dave and Margie Lochhead, and best wishes to Kathy and Lee Drennan, John and Joyce Farrell and Teresa and Dave Becker.

May 21, some of the Purple Grove Women's Institute members went on a
road trip to the Sandhill Creek Flower Farm at Hepworth to tour through the tulips! It was sunny and cool, but a lovely day and ended with supper at the Harrison Park Restaurant. Thanks to Bonnie Boyle and Fran Farrell for planning the excursion. Members also discussed the upcoming District Annual Meeting to be hosted with Purple Valley, May 28, at the Ripley-Huron Legion. Delegates from across the county will be in attendance.

Bren de Leeuw and Fran Farrell were pleased to attend
the Grey County District Annual at the New Life Centre in Owen Sound, a week ago Wednesday. The Grey County ladies entertained and informed us of their projects and plans. It was a very informative day meeting with friends and making new friends too. The Grey County District president is Linda Tottenham and secretary is Myrna Casemore.

Ellen Waye of
the Bervie W.I. and Bren de Leeuw of Purple Grove attended the Tiverton Spring Market on the weekend.

The next scheduled meeting for the Purple Grove Women's Institute is Wednesday, June 3, at 7 p.m. at the Purple Grove Community Centre, with Robyn Bridge as speaker, sharing her experiences as a veterinary technician.
