Apartment damaged by early-morning fire in Kincardine

Wednesday (June 3), at 5 a.m., Kincardine Fire Emergency Services, Stations 12 and 11, responded to a structure fire in a five-unit housing complex on Kincardine Avenue, Kincardine.

On arrival, crews reported a working fire in one of the units, said fire chief Guy Gallant. Firefighters entered the structure and made a quick knock-down of the fire, containing the blaze to the bedroom of one unit.

There were no injuries to any occupants or fire personnel, said Gallant. The residents of the complex were displaced for most of the day. Residents of three of the five units were able to return that night.

Initially, Kincardine Avenue was closed, from Princes Street to Alice Street, and Queen Street was closed from St. Albert Street to Kincardine Avenue, as firefighters brought the blaze under control. By 8 a.m, Kincardine Avenue was still closed, just west of Queen Street.

The fire department thanks Ross Young Bus Lines for assisting with the displaced occupants by providing a bus for shelter; and thanks mutual aid partners Huron-Kinloss Fire and Emergency Services' Ripley fire station, and Grey-Bruce Victim Services, for their assistance.

The investigation continues into the cause of the fire.

Working smoke alarms provided early warning about the fire and allowed the residents to escape to safety. Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services reminds the public to check your alarms to ensure they will work … it’s a matter of life and death!
