(HURON COUNTY, ON) - The Huron County OPP and Special Olympics Ontario partnered alongside family members, friends and community supporters from all over Huron County to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics at the Law Enforcement Torch Run, Wednesday, June 3.
This event is the largest public awareness vehicle and grassroots fund-raiser for Special Olympics. This year, Huron OPP Torch Run coordinator, sergeant Russell Nesbitt, who has been involved with this great partnership for almost 30 years, reported a fund-raising total of more than $5,000.
The run began at the Maitland River Community Church in Wingham, heading through to the south end of town. Participants were then transported to Blyth, Clinton, and Goderich where they brought their excitement and joy to each of those communities. After completing the final leg in Goderich participants and supporters met at McGee Motors in Goderich for a celebration barbecue.
A big thanks to the donors, Goderich Zehrs Store, First Student Bus Line Goderich, M&M Meats Goderich, McGee Motors, and Corrie's Foodland, that provided transportation, food items and support for the participants and volunteers.
Any person or business that is looking to donate to this wonderful cause may do so by cash or cheque made payable to "Ontario Special Olympics."
