The Smart Beach Light at Station Beach in Kincardine, is now up and running and was officially unveiled at a ceremony, June 12.
“We’re proud to see this light in place at Station Beach and available for residents and visitors to use,” said mayor Kenneth Craig. “This new beach safety system reflects our commitment to providing clear information that helps people make informed decisions and enjoy Kincardine’s waterfront safely.”
The new system uses a simple, colour-coded light display - green, yellow and red - to communicate current swimming conditions based on real-time environmental data. Located at the main beach entrance, south of the Kincardine Harbour, the signal provides accessible, up-to-date information to help beach-goers make informed decisions before entering the water.
The unveiling also included the dedication of two memorial benches, recognizing families affected by drowning tragedies and their contributions to advancing beach safety awareness.
The sign on the benches reads: "In remembrance of the lives lost to Lake Huron. May their memory encourage awareness and water safety for all."

While the municipality welcomes people to use the sign as a reference, it emphasizes that the beach safety light is only a guidance system, and includes the following disclaimer at the bottom: "The SWIM conditions are intended to provide guidance only, all information and content provided are for general information purposes only. The Municipality of Kincardine makes no representations or warranties of any kind, expressed or implied, about the completeness or accuracy of the information provided. Any reliance you place on such information is strictly at your own risk."
