Kincardine U14 girls earn first win of season with gritty 2-1 comeback over Waterloo

The Kincardine Under-14 (U14) girls soccer team battled through sweltering conditions that felt closer to 40 degrees Celsius, Tuesday night, to earn a hard-fought and well-deserved 2-1 victory over Waterloo — claiming the team's first win of the season in dramatic fashion.

Waterloo struck first in the opening half, capitalizing on a breakaway opportunity to take a 1-0 lead. Despite the early setback and the challenging heat, Kincardine remained composed and continued to create opportunities.

The momentum shifted late in the first half when Waterloo was called for a handball inside the penalty area, resulting in a yellow card for denying a scoring opportunity. Claire Ferguson stepped up to the spot and calmly delivered a perfect penalty kick, sending the teams into half-time, tied 1-1.

The second half belonged to Kincardine.

The girls came out with incredible energy, controlling possession for much of the half and creating numerous dangerous scoring chances. Although several opportunities narrowly missed the mark, the team never stopped pressing and continued to believe that the breakthrough would come.

That moment arrived when Gabby Oberle unleashed an absolute rocket inside the 18-yard box. Her powerful strike found the top corner of the net, giving the Waterloo goalkeeper no chance and sending the Kincardine bench and supporters into celebration.

The comeback victory was a true team effort, with every player contributing to the result. Earning its first win of the season after battling back from a goal down, is something this group should be extremely proud of. The girls' determination, resilience, and commitment to one another were on full display, and the victory was thoroughly deserved.
