Kincardine postpones Canada Day fireworks display to Aug. 15

The Municipality of Kincardine has made the difficult decision to postpone the Canada Day fireworks display to Saturday, Aug. 15, due to the forecast for rain and potential thunderstorms tonight (July 3).

That's the word from the municipality in a press release, issued Friday.

The fireworks were originally planned for Canada Day (Wednesday, July 1) but were postponed to tonight because of the threat of severe weather. During Wednesday's afternoon storm, heavy rain and strong wind also damaged some of the fireworks and equipment during their set up.

Setting up a fireworks display takes between seven and 10 hours. With rain and thunderstorms forecast throughout the set-up period, Friday, it would not be safe for the crew to install the display. There is also a risk of further damage to the fireworks and equipment following Wednesday's severe storm.

"Safety has been our priority throughout this process," states the press release."We know how much our community looks forward to the fireworks, and we share everyone's disappointment. Rather than risk the safety of the fireworks crew, we've chosen to re-schedule the display so residents and visitors can enjoy the full fireworks experience under safer conditions."

The municipality extends its sincere appreciation to Super Nova Fireworks Inc. for its flexibility and continued partnership in re-scheduling the event, as well as the Kincardine Scottish Festival and Highland Games executive for its support in accommodating the original re-scheduled date.

The municipality also appreciates the patience and understanding of residents and visitors as it works through these weather-related challenges.

"We look forward to celebrating together Saturday, Aug. 15, when conditions will allow for the full fireworks display our community deserves."
