Ian Michael Chester of Kincardine died Wednesday, June 24, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends, at the age of 80.
Beloved husband of the late Patricia Chester (2024).
Loving father of Vicky and Emma Chester (Eugene).
Proud granddad of Ella, Addie, Liam, Oliver and Grace.
Fondly remembered by his sister, Allison; and sister-in-law, Janet Barnett.
Ian was born in 1945 in Lancashire, England, while his family was on holiday. Raised in Birmingham, he excelled at darts and was a huge fan of the Birmingham City Football Club. In 1981, Ian and family left Redditch, England, and immigrated to Canada to begin a new life.
He was a hard worker and enjoyed his trade. Eventually, he would work and retire from Ontario Hydro as a skilled machinist/mechanic.
Ian ’s community volunteer work included aiding in the development of the track and soccer field at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine; he enjoyed the opportunity to work with others on this project.
He enjoyed soccer, jive-dancing and walks on the beach with Patricia. Ian always looked forward to the company of his many Hydro pals at the ‘board meetings’ at The King’s Pearl in Tiverton.
In later years, Ian suffered health challenges and was thankful for the amazingly kind and generous support of his family and friends. A special thanks to Betty Lou Morgan (Glen), Steven and Lynne Whitaker, Colleen and Steve Jacobs, Wayne and Carol Robertson, and Ian’s dear friend, Ian Ritchie, who was alongside him even in his final hours. He was fortunate to have wonderful friends.
Cremation has taken place.
To honour Ian’s life, family and friends will gather at a later date; details to follow.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences may be made on-line at www.daveylinklaterfuneralhome.com.
