Operation Safe Driver Week runs July 12-18

(ORILLIA, ON) - A split-second decision behind the wheel can have life-changing consequences. During Operation Safe Driver Week, the OPP is joining its partners in promoting safer roads through education, awareness and targeted enforcement.

Led by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, this annual campaign enforces safety on the road for commercial motor vehicles.

From July 12-18, the OPP will increase enforcement and education efforts, targeting improper lane changes, following too closely, speeding, impairment and other reckless and dangerous driver behaviours on our roads.

In 2025, 8,826 collisions investigated in OPP jurisdictions, involved commercial motor vehicles. Of those, 77 were fatal, claiming the lives of 95 people who never made it home to their loved ones.

Whether you're a commercial or non-commercial driver, collisions caused by unsafe driving behaviours are preventable.

Commercial drivers are reminded that compliance with commercial vehicle safety requirements, such as inspections, hours of service, secured cargo and the movement of dangerous goods, is critical to keeping roads safe and forms part of commercial vehicle enforcement.

Everyday choices make a difference on our roads. Road safety is a collective responsibility. Make safety a top priority, drive responsibly and obey the law.
