It’s summer, and Knox Presbyterian Church, Kincardine, is holding its annual Kids Clothing Drive.
Organizer Wendy Cox will be at the church Thursdays, from 6-8 p.m., until Aug. 6, and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., until Aug. 8, to gratefully receive donations of clean clothes in a good state of repair.
Free distribution will be held Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 6-9 p.m., and Thursday, Aug. 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the church. Free fully-stocked backpacks will be available at the same time for those who have registered with the United Way of Bruce Grey.
So, ransack your closets and pass along what you can no longer use and feel the glow of knowing you’ve made someone’s life a tad easier – not to mention you’re saving the planet!
And to put you in that generous state of mind, with apologies to Messrs Bacharach and David and Miss Dionne Warwick; to the tune of "Walk on By":
If you see me sittin’ by the street
And I start to fry, due to the heat
Don’t walk by
Don’t walk by
Step aside and ask me why I’m here
outside the shade
In public and wilting from heatstroke
Do I wish to die?
Step aside (Stop, stop)
Step aside (Stop, stop)
Step aside
I am hoping that you’ll help me out -
passing on clothes too small for your kids
Tops and shirts
Jeans and skirts
Some families need help to clothe their kids
Before schooltime
So let’s help them cover their bases
What is there to lose?
Denim blues? (Stop by)
Boots and shoes? (Stop by)
Step aside ...
