Smoky haze drifts into Kincardine area bringing poor air quality

Smoke from distant wildfires drifted into the Kincardine area, Wednesday, creating an orange-coloured sky and causing poor air-quality conditions.

Numerous events and activities were cancelled and some businesses closed due to the unfavourable outdoor conditions.

The Music in the Park concert at Dunsmoor Park, Kincardine, Wednesday night, was cancelled, as was the Quilt Show at Knox Presbyterian Church, Kincardine, set for Thursday and Friday, and the Ripley and District Horticultural Society's Garden Tour, Thursday.

The UPI gas station was closed, as was the Lucknow Pool.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has advised that the smoky conditions and poor air quality will likely persist into Friday.

People are urged to check the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) at: weather.gc.ca/airquality/pages/onaq-028_e.html.

If the air quality is poor:

• Spend less time outdoors.
• Avoid strenuous activities, such as running, sports, or heavy yard work.
• Keep windows and doors closed, when possible.
• Check in on older adults, young children, and anyone with asthma, heart disease, or other lung conditions.
